 Support for women

Whether you need immediate safety, practical help, someone to advocate alongside you, or support to understand what you have experienced, we are here to help you move forward safely.

How we support women affected by family violence

Advocacy & support

Our Family Violence Specialists walk alongside women experiencing family violence to understand what is happening, identify risks and support you to make decisions about your safety and your future.

We can provide:

  • Safety planning to help you identify risks and make a plan for yourself and your whānau

  • Advocacy with Police, Courts and other agencies

  • Information and support around Protection Orders and Parenting Orders

  • Support accessing Family Violence Leave

  • Assistance accessing WINZ and other financial support

  • Referrals to budgeting services and specialist family violence lawyers

  • Support to understand different forms of family violence, including coercive and controlling behaviour, psychological abuse and financial abuse

  • Support to recognise patterns of abuse and understand the cycle of violence

  • Practical support to help you make changes and work towards greater safety and independence

  • Referrals and connections with other services where additional support is needed

You don't need to have everything figured out before you contact us. We can work with you to understand what you need and what feels safe for you.

Women's Safety Programme

Our Women's Safety Programme provides education and support for women who have experienced family violence.

Our programme runs weekly for 10 weeks during term time and provides a safe space to learn alongside other women who may have experienced similar situations.

The programme explores topics including:

  • Understanding family violence and the cycle of violence

  • The effects of family violence

  • Safety planning

  • Healthy and unhealthy relationships

  • Understanding boundaries and personal safety

  • Rebuilding confidence and self-esteem

  • Navigating legal processes and understanding your options

  • Looking towards your goals and the future

The programme is designed to help women build knowledge, recognise patterns of abuse, strengthen their understanding of safety and relationships, and make informed choices about what comes next.

Support that is right for you

There is no one way to experience family violence, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to getting support. Some women may need help to leave an unsafe relationship. Others may be trying to understand what has been happening, rebuild their confidence, navigate the legal system, or create greater safety while remaining in their home.

Our role is to listen, support and advocate alongside you without judgement. You can contact us for support whether you are experiencing family violence now or are trying to make sense of what has happened in the past. You don't have to wait until things get worse to ask for help.
