They provide a free and independent service to all.
Legal problems can be serious and frightening, and for many people, lawyers are completely unaffordable. But everyone has the right to high-quality legal help – that’s where Community Law comes in. Whether you’re struggling to keep or share your kids, finding it hard to handle WINZ, fines or debt, facing criminal charges, or dealing with a different kind of legal problem, often the first and most important step is to ask for help.
Tenancy Services provide information on your rights and responsibilities as a landlord, tenant or unit title owner. Tenancy Services can be a valuable resource when navigating housing challenges. Whether you’re starting a new tenancy, dealing with unsafe or unfair living conditions, or needing help to resolve disputes, they can offer clear advice and practical steps to help you feel more confident and secure in your housing situation.

Victim Support provides free, confidential support to people affected by crime, trauma, or family violence. They offer emotional support, practical help, and information to guide you through your options, including dealing with police and the justice system. Their team can also help you access other services and resources, supporting your safety, wellbeing, and recovery.

Te Whānau o Te Maungarongo provides culturally grounded counselling and support services that strengthen individuals, couples, and whānau. With a strong focus on hauora and wellbeing, they offer individual and couples counselling in a safe, respectful environment, helping people navigate challenges, rebuild relationships, and develop healthy ways of connecting. They offer dedicated support for tāne, creating space for men to explore personal growth, emotional wellbeing, and positive identity.
Addiction Services - As Hutt Valley Women’s Refuge does not provide addiction services please refer to CareNZ. CareNZ offer people with addiction – and those who love them – a wide range of services and interventions to make significant changes in their lives. Don’t be afraid to take the first step and make contact with – it can make all the difference.
Mental Health Services - As Hutt Valley Women’s Refuge does not provide addiction services please refer to Te Haika. Te Haika is a mental health and addictions contact centre for people in crisis or experiencing moderate to severe mental health or addiction problems. It is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by mental health and addiction professionals. Our service is for everyone from Wellington, Porirua, Kāpiti, the Hutt Valley and the Wairarapa.
The Upper Hutt Women’s Centre and Lower Hutt Women’s Centre provide safe, inclusive spaces where women can access a range of services designed to enhance wellbeing, build confidence, and strengthen community connection.
Their services include counselling, support groups, workshops, and practical assistance, all delivered with a strong focus on respect, compassion, and empowerment. Both centres play a vital role in helping women navigate challenges, develop resilience, and thrive in their daily lives.
